Food shorts: Valentine promos, sustainable seafood

MANILA -- Still looking for the perfect Valentine's Day gift and date place? Here are some of the latest offerings and promos in the food scene.

1. Jose Cuervo adds kick to Valentine's Day

Spice up your Valentine's Day date with premium tequila from Jose Cuervo. Apart from being an ingredient for cocktails and mixes, Jose Cuervo can also be used to give an additional kick to savory dishes, like special shrimp tacos. Just add 3 tablespoons Jose Cuervo Especial Silver to the marinade for the shrimps, and 2 teaspoons of tequila to the spicy mayo mix.

Pair the tacos with a pitcher of frozen margarita and you are in for a pretty good evening.

2. Valentine mamon

There are two types of Valentine -- one that is full of "kilig" and the other with "hugot."

To cater to both, Red Ribbon is offering new limited edition “Team Kilig” and “Team Hugot” Valentine mamons. The "kilig" version contains Valentine messages that will surely bring smile to your special someone, while the "hugot" mamons have feel-good "hugot" lines for those who are celebrating February 14 alone. 

These are available in all Red Ribbon stores nationwide for P100 per box.

3. 'Wicked' discounts at Diamond Hotel 

Once again, Diamond Hotel Philippines is the official residence of the cast and crew of the Broadway and West End hit "Wicked" in Manila. 

To celebrate the return of the award-winning musical, the hotel is offering a 20% discount in its dining outlets-- Corniche, Yurakuen, and Bar27 -- to all "Wicked" ticket holders. All you have to do is to present your ticket, which is valid seven days from the show date. Prior reservation is encouraged. 

4. TWG Tea opens in Conrad Manila 

Luxury tea brand TWG is opening its sixth branch in Conrad Manila's S Maison. The 200-sq.m. tea salon comfortably seats a maximum of 34 people and features fine interiors. 

The TWG Tea collection includes over 800 fine harvests and exclusive tea blends, sourced from over 200 tea plantations in 46 tea producing regions across the world each year.

In the Philippines, TWG has other branches in Greenbelt 5, Resorts World Manila, Shangri-La Plaza East Wing, and Central Square in Bonifacio Global City. 

5. Healthy Eats' more affordable menu

Organic cafe and store Healthy Eats is making its menu more affordable to cater to the growing demand for healthy and inexpensive food. 

With prices starting at P99, Healthy Eats now has budget-friendly pastas, salads, red rice meals, and many more. 

6. Villa del Conte's Amore Box 

Still don't have any idea what to give your special someone this Valentine's Day? 

Villa Del Conte, the handcrafted artisanal chocolates from Padova, offers the Amore chocolate gift box, which comes in an elegant red box with a gold heart. It contains 200 grams of either Villa Del Conte’s Praline Balls or Bonta Dark Chocolates. 

Priced at P880, the Amore box is available at Villa Del Conte stores in Greenbelt 5, Century City Mall, Shangri-la Mall, Resorts World, Alabang Town Center, SM Megamall, and Robinsons Magnolia.

7. SaladStop! offers party trays

SaladStop! makes healthy feasting easy with its party traysm which come in select variants of the restaurant's favorite salads and wraps such as Oh Crab Lah!, Iron “Wo” Man, and Hail Caesar. 

SALADSTOP! has branches in Alabang Town Center, Greenhills, Ayala Tower One, One Palanca, Burgos Circle, Power Plant Mall, Salcedo Village and Glorietta 2.

8. Seafood Sustainability Week

In celebration of the Seafood Sustainability Week later this month, Marriott Hotel Manila offers sustainable seafood dishes for the entire month of February.

The Ocean’s Harvest section of the buffet at Marriott Café features more seafood this month. Whole tiger prawns, New Zealand mussels, white shell clams, curacha, and slipper lobsters are served fresh, and can be cooked to your specification. At the Asian corner, live mud crabs and abalone is served with your choice of homemade sauces from Salted Egg, X.O., or Singaporean chili.

The Cru Steakhouse, meanwhile, will feature barbecue wahoo mackerel in its special 4-course dinner. The dish can also be ordered ala carte.

Lobby eats at the Greatroom will also include Sea Bites, or snacks like house-smoked wahoo mackerel sandwiches, spicy yellow fin tuna tartar, and kataifi-wrapped Selva shrimps.

Meanwhile, Discovery Leisure Company’s three signature restaurants will launch sustainable seafood dishes using yellow fin tuna and Selva shrimp in March.

Discovery Primea Makati’s Flame will serve Spice Roasted Prawns, while Discovery Shores Boracay’s Indigo will offer Coriander Crusted Yellow Fin Tuna. Discovery Suites Ortigas’ 22 Prime will serve Texas shrimp straw hats (nachos topped with Selva shrimp, salsa, and sour cream).
