“I’m really a chemistry type coach – I really believe in chemistry. You don’t need chemistry to be a good team but you need chemistry to be a great team.”
-Earl Timothy Cone

The photo above was taken back in October 2, 1996. That is me in a boys’ size jersey of soon-to-be MVP Johnny Abarrientos, standing next to Coach Tim Cone, the man who is revered as the Philippines’ answer to the Zen Master himself, Phil Jackson.

For the average Filipino basketball junkie, Cone is synonymous with the Alaska franchise, whether they carried the Air Force, Milkmen, or Aces moniker. When one mentions the elusive Grand Slam, he is right up there with Baby Dalupan, Tommy Manotoc, and Norman Black. How about the Philippine Centennial Team? He led that esteemed platoon to war against neighboring Asian countries. Cone is entrenched in Philippine basketball lore. This is my story.
