GENERAL SANTOS CITY - Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, who is currently seventh in the race for a Senate seat, has congratulated Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for leading the presidential elections, based on the latest partial and unofficial results from the Commission on Elections.

Pacquiao also appealed to supporters and other political groups to start the healing process after relationships were strained during the grueling campaign period.

Suportahan natin ang bagong administrasyon" he added.

Pacquiao was part of the campaign of United Nationalist Alliance presidential candidate Jejomar Binay. Despite this, he was endorsed by Duterte. He has also rejected calls to switch sides and support the tough-talking mayor, but he remained firm in his commitment to Binay.

From the beginning, dalawa lang ang pinaniwalaan kong capable na i-manage ang bansa, either Binay or Duterte," he explained.

Asked what to expect from his stint in the Senate, Pacquiao replied: "Asahan niyo po kung paano ako nag-focus sa boxing career, kung paano ako nagchampion na makilala sa buong mudo, ganun din po ako kadedicated sa sarili ko para magserbisyo sa taumbayan."
