Children displaced by violence write letters to Duterte

ABS-CBN News

Lumad children seeking temporary shelter at the Haran evacuation center in Davao City have written letters to presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte.

The children, whose families were displaced from their homes in Davao del Norte, are urging Duterte to pull out the military from their areas.

They said they want to go home and go back to school.

The military has been accused of being involved in the killings of lumads.

In September last year, three lumad, including a school teacher, were gunned down allegedly by the paramilitary group Mahagat-Bagani in Lianga, Surigao del Sur.

The military denied the existence of the paramilitary group. It also accused several lumads of sympathizing with the New People's Army (NPA). - Report from Ara Casas, ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao
