MANILA - Brothers Joel and Mario Reyes, who are accused in the killing of broadcaster and environmentalist Gerry Ortega, are both trailing in their respective races in Coron, Palawan, partial and unofficial results of Monday's elections show.

As of 1:59 p.m. Tuesday, Joel had 7,467 votes in the mayoralty race. The leading candidate, Jerry Barracoso of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), had 11,820 votes.

Mario, meanwhile, had 9,491 votes in the vice mayoralty race. Joseph Armstrong Palanca, also of UNA, had 11,518 votes.

Joel, who is a former governor of Palawan, and Mario, a former mayor of Coron, are facing murder charges for allegedly masterminding the killing of Ortega in 2011.

Ortega was a prominent environmental activist in the province who had frequently accused the Reyes brothers of graft.
