Brother of LP's Gov. Mangudadatu supports Duterte

MAGUINDANAO - Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte expressed confidence that he will win the presidential race in Maguindanao, even without the endorsement of Governor Esmael "Toto" Mangudadatu.

Duterte was in Buluan, Maguindanao on Saturday to woo around 500,000 voters.

"I am a party man. My party is LP (Liberal Party)," Mangudadatu told ABS-CBN News. "I am fully supporting the candidacy of Mar Roxas and Leni Robredo."

The PDP-Laban standard bearer, however, found an ally in a younger brother of Mangudadatu, former Buluan Mayor Jong Mangudadatu.

According to Jong, his family owes a huge debt of gratitude to Duterte, who was the first one to assist them following the massacre of the governor's wife and dozens of journalists in November 2009.

The Mangudadatus and the Dutertes are long-time family friends, he added.

Jong said he believes the people of Maguindanao will also support the presidential bid of Duterte, a fellow Mindanaoan, which will result in the mayor's victory in the province.

Jong said he is not bothered by the recent endorsement of Vice President Jejomar Binay by the Ampatuan clan. - Report from Doris Bigornia, ABS-CBN News
