Robredo promises ‘100 percent’ support for Duterte

MANILA – Vice President-elect Leni Robredo said she would support President-elect Rodrigo Duterte “100 percent” and was hoping they would have a good working relationship.

The winners of the May 9 elections, who were both proclaimed on Monday, come from opposing parties. In the past, not belonging to the same party has become a source of friction between the president and vice president.

“Kahit siguro nagdi-disagree ako sa ibang pananaw niya, parati ko siyang iaasure na yung 100 percent na suporta ko sa kanya,” said Robredo, who ran with administration standard-bearer Mar Roxas.

“Very hopeful ako na magiging maganda namana ang aming working relationship. Maraming bagay na magakaiba kami ng pananaw, pero palagay ko hindid yun dahilan para hindi maganda ang aming samahan,” she said.

While she disagreed with Duterte’s push to reinstate capital punishment, Robredo said she shared several similarities with the Davao City mayor, including a background in local governance and living in provinces far from Manila, the country’s seat of power and center of business.

“Palagay ko, sufficient similarities yun na pwede naming pagsimulan. Kahit naman sa anong relayson hindi lahat mag-aagree. Siguro maganda mag-aagree kami to disagree,” she said.
