No rift in Duterte camp, says spokesman

MANILA - There is no division within the members of presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte's team, his spokesman clarified Thursday.

Speaking to reporters in Davao City, Peter Laviña denied reports that there is a rift among members of Duterte's transition team and potential Cabinet members.

"We would like to correct impressions that there are divisions or rifts within the Duterte camp. These are all speculations and not true. You will note that we only have one team," Laviña said.

Laviña on Wednesday announced six members, including himself, of Duterte's transition committee which will coordinate with President Benigno Aquino III's own team for the Davao City mayor's assumption to office.

The five other members are Leoncio Jun Evasco, campaign manager; Christopher "Bong" Go, assistant campaign manager and executive assistant; Carlos Dominguez, former Cabinet member and head of Duterte's campaign finance committee; and Salvador Medialdea and Loreto Ata, the mayor's personal lawyers.

According to Laviña, the transition team met today to discuss each member's specific tasks.

He earlier said the team will be divided into subcommittees. One will focus on the selection of Duterte's Cabinet, another will prepare the ceremonies for the mayor's assumption to office, while another will draft his plans in his first 100 days.

"In our meeting today, we made various assignments for the members of the transition team. We have for each a major task," he said.

"The transition team has also been receiving various nominees and names being submitted to the team and these are being subject to our review and listing," he added.
