Says Duterte presidency vulnerable to coup d'etat

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Grace Poecredits

QUEZON - Senator Grace Poe on Wednesday said she cannot deny that Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is a threat to her presidential campaign.

"I think that every candidate nga may alas eh. There's no denying dahil siya yung frontrunner eh talagang malaki ang hamon sa amin," Poe said.

Duterte remains the top choice for president of Filipino voters, according to the latest ABS-CBN survey conducted by Pulse Asia.

The survey, conducted from April 26 to 29 among 4,000 respondents, showed Duterte keeping his 33% voter support, over 10 percentage points higher than second-placers Mar Roxas and Poe.

Roxas obtained a 22% rating while Poe got 21%, followed by Vice President Jejomar Binay (17%) and Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago (2%).

Poe stressed that surveys are not the end-all be-all of a candidate's campaign, citing the cases of Roxas and Binay in the 2010 vice-presidential race and her father, the late Fernando Poe Jr., in the 2004 presidential elections.

Poe campaigned in vote-rich Quezon today where more than a million votes are at stake. In the final week of the campaign period, almost all of Poe's campaign sorties are in vote-rich areas in Luzon.

COUP D'ETAT

Meanwhile, Poe shared the sentiments of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV that a Duterte presidency will be vulnerable to a coup d'etat.

"I think it will... I think it is vulnerable to a lot of things.

When asked if she thinks her administration will be as vulnerable, Poe had this to say: "Pag presidente ako, sa tingin ko, hindi magkaka-coup d'etat."
