Initial poll results show celebs lagging in Senate race

MANILA – Unlike before, it seems that celebrity status is not enough to get a Senate seat.

So far, only boxing champ Manny Pacquiao and re-electionist senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III have made it to the “Magic 12,” according to the partial and unofficial results transmitted by the Commission on Elections to ABS-CBN.

As of 8:10 p.m. on May 9, Pacquiao is ranked ninth among Senatorial candidates with 10,797,532 votes.

Sotto, who was once part of the noontime show “Eat Bulaga,” ranks third, amassing 12,518,474 votes.

The other celebrity candidates continue to struggle for a Senate seat – former action star Mark Lapid, former actor Isko Moreno, TV host-actor Edu Manzano, actress Alma Moreno and broadcaster Rey Langit – landing outside the "Magic 12" as of writing.

Over 54.6 million have registered to vote in the 2016 elections.
