Tsunami warnings lifted for Japan, Taiwan
Hong Kong – The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center lifted a tsunami alert for Japan, Taiwan and several Pacific islands on Friday after a major 7.6 quake, but kept it in place for the Philippines and Indonesia.
The predicted landfall timings for the first of any tsunami waves, which would have hit Indonesia and the Philippines, had passed without immediate reports of damage.
The earthquake that struck east of the Philippines was revised down by the United States Geological Survey after an initial 7.9 reading.
