MANILA, Philippines - Major foreign news organizations and websites carried reports on the death of Philippine comedy king Dolphy Tuesday night.

The New York Times, CNN, and Fox News carried a story from the Associated Press(AP), with the headline, "Dolphy, comedian adored by many Filipinos, dies."

Other American news websites such as the Boston Globe, Newsday, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the Seattle Post Intelligencer also published the AP story on the death of the Filipino comedian.

News companies subscribing to Agence France-Presse (AFP) also ran reports on Dolphy's passing.

The AFP story quoted ABS-CBN that broke the story on the comedian's death.

"His passing was announced by ABS-CBN television, the country's leading broadcaster which aired his hit sitcom in the 1990s about a poor widower struggling to raise his children in the slums," AFP said.

"ABS-CBN said Dolphy's passing was confirmed by his partner Zsa Zsa Padilla," it added.
