GLENDALE, California - The Filipino community joined some from Hollywood's Fil-American beauty industry to watch Janine Tugonon become Miss Universe first runner up.
"Ang magsasabi ko lang, ang galing, ang galing talaga. We started with Venus as 4th runner up, tapos si Shamcey as 3rd, now 1st runner up. I'm so excited for next year ang galing mga mentors nya, ng trainers niya. Galing!" said Hydee Abrahan, photographer and talent manager.
Another Fil-Am Loraine Diego said, “I felt she was very natural in how she was answering the questions and I felt that she was a very good representative of the Philippine woman today.”
Celebrity skin care specialist Olivia Quido Co who has worked with the past two Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup and Venus Raj, hosted the viewing party.
She has yet to work with reigning Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon, but she believes her very Pinay look set her apart.
“Janine's beauty is a very Filipina beauty and very nice yung the way she carries herself and also the way she talks and the way she answers yung question and answer portion very, very confident. So we're all proud of you Janine,” said Co.
While a few already knew the results because the West Coast telecast was three hours delayed, Filipinos cheered on as Tugonon made it into the final round.
“I like the way she answered the question. I even like her composure. She's not nervous,” said Angie Tabin.
“She's just very confident,” said Raymin Sunga.
While disappointed by coming up short, Filipinos were still proud of Tugonon and impressed by the newly crowned Miss Universe Miss USA Olivia Culpo.
