|Singer Nekesha Sequiera from Liverpool impressed judges at TFCKAT auditions in Whiston
WHISTON - ABS-CBN Europe’s talent search TFCKAT returned for a new season with its first live auditions in England.
Six contestants showed their talents at TFC Kapamilya Fair in Whiston in northwest England, vying for a spot in the 2013 UK finals in London next summer.
Performers of different ages competed against each other at Whiston Town Hall including child singers, a young keyboard player, and a diva. Each contestant was critiqued and scored by judges from The Filipino Channel (TFC) and MyRemit.
“We’re looking for people with pure talent. Someone who can really showcase their talent on stage and be able to compete against other talents in the UK and around the world,” said Ros Sazon from TFC Europe, organiser of the competition.
Seventeen-year-old music student Nekesha Sequeira clinched the top spot with her charming acoustic rendition of Stevie Wonder’s classic hit “Isn’t She Lovely?”
“I feel quite shocked because I didn’t really expect it,” said the singer, who will now go through to the UK finals in London, joining regional winners from Northern Ireland and Scotland, as well as finalists from other parts of England.
She added: “I’m also really excited for next year. I’m proud to represent Whiston. It means a lot to me, because I do also want to get into the music industry, so this is another stepping stone for me.”
Dozens of Filipinos from northwest England came out to support the event, coming from areas like Whiston, Liverpool, St. Helen’s, and Manchester.
“We’re happy and very lucky to have ABS-CBN here for the first time giving us a chance to be seen and heard,” said Jonalyn Dancel from the Whiston Filipino Community. Many from the community work as nurses or hospital workers in the area.
She added: “I know that our contestant is one of the best. I have faith in my community and in all those people who came to compete today.”
TFCKAT 2013 will continue to hold auditions in the UK, Italy and France through TFC Kapamilya Fairs.
National winners stand to win a cash prize along with a chance to compete in the TFCKAT European Championships, the winner of which could get an opportunity to take part in Pilipinas Got Talent.
“This is just the start of TFCKAT auditions for 2013. We’d like to invite everyone with talent to get involved. Watch out for us in an area near you next year,” urged Sazon.
Filipino performers who would like to audition are encouraged to contact their local agents or the nearest TFC office for more information. Interested parties may also send a video sample directly to ABS-CBN Europe, 117 Earl’s Court Road, London, SW5 9RL, or via email on email@example.com.
