BATON ROUGE, LA. - The remains of the Filipino worker killed in the explosion of an oil rig in Louisiana last Friday is being transported to a New Orleans funeral home, said Deputy Consul General Orontes Castro of the Philippine Consulate in Chicago.
The Coroner’s Office had conducted an autopsy on the body of Elroy Corporal yesterday.
Corporal’s wife is being flown to the US to claim her late husband’s remains for repatriation to the Philippines.
Philippine Ambassador Jose Cuisia yesterday briefly visited a Filipino survivor, 50-year-old Wilberto Ilagan, one of the four burn victims confined at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center.
Castro said Ilagan’s face lit up when Cuisia told him that President Aquino personally sent the Ambassador to Baton Rouge to look into the welfare of the Filipino casualties.
While the condition of the three Filipino workers who suffered the most serious burns remains guarded, Baton Rouge General Medical Center said Ilagan continues to improve and is now in “good” condition.
