ROME, Italy – Thirty-two Filipino pilgrims set to witness the canonization of Pedro Calungsod were duped by their travel agent in Sydney, Australia.

Out of the 32, only 25 still went ahead with their trip to Rome by booking new tickets and hotel accommodation.

The others still wanted to go but did not have extra money to pay for the new bookings.

ABS-CBN News team met the group of Pinoy pilgrims from Sydney during a stop-over at the Dubai International Airport.

They said each of them paid the agent more than 5,000 Australian dollars for their plane tickets and hotel accommodation in Rome.

However, the agent took off with their money.

The group plans to file a complaint against the travel agency after the canonization.

Calungsod, who will be the second Filipino saint after San Lorenzo Ruiz, will be canonized on October 21. Report from Rico Lucena, ABS-CBN News
