SURREY, British Columbia – A popular singer in the Philippines during the 1980s has been preaching God's teachings in Canada for many years now.
Ray Ann Fuentes’ voice is still powerful, and he still has the moves. Fuentes bid show business in the Philippines goodbye in 1988, but he never fails to wow his audience whenever he performs his hit songs.
Fuentes has now included songs of praise in his repertoire.
“I took a leap of faith, hindi lang step of faith. At the height of my career, iniwanan ko lahat para pagsilbihan ang Panginoon,” Fuentes said.
It was not easy for the singer and his family when they moved to Canada in 1997. Fuentes admitted it did not make sense at first since show business was his only source of living.
However, he said it was God's will that brought him and his family to Canada.
“I saw the wisdom of why God uprooted us and brought us to Canada kasi dito wala kaming ibang kakapitan kung di siya,” he said.
Fuentes has been a singing evangelist and preacher in Canada for 13 years now. He gets invited to different churches in the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia as well.
Although Fuentes would still want to go back to the Philippines, he does not deny that he still misses show business.
“I missed showbiz as far as the artistry is concerned not the lifestyle,” he said. Balitang America
