ABBOTSFORD, BC – A Filipino chef has failed to defend his title at the Master Chef Championship during the 2012 Fraser Valley Food Show.
The annual food show was a haven for foodies with exhibits showcasing home grown and international foods.
Aside from wine tasting, other activities include food tasting and cooking demo tips.
But the main event was the Master Chef competition. It was a showdown between reigning Master Chef Romeo Oloresisimo and Executive Chef William Tse.
One of the secret ingridients was aligator's meat.
However, Oloresisimo failed to defend his title and admitted that this year’s competition was tough.
The chefs were tasked to prepare an appetizer and an entree within 50 minutes. But the unthinkable happened during the competition when Oloresisimo was about to start plating the cooked alligator meat--he accidentally dropped it.
“Honestly, when I saw the meat go down the floor, I'm like "there goes the competition". But truth to the matter is the 20 minutes, the two courses, kinda spinned me off a little bit. I wasn’t really on top of that game,” he said.
Tse was declared Master Chef champion for 2012. It took him two years to win the competition.
Win or lose, Oloresisimo said he is moving on. He just recently won the Iron Chef 100 Mile Diet competition in Kamloops.
