CANADA - A reputable restaurant that serves bulalo has become a link to home for kababayans in Ottawa.

In a place where there are not too many Pinoys, it is nearly impossible to find a Filipino restaurant, much more one that can compete with other reputable restaurants in the capital city.

But Myra Aranas faced the challenge of running the only Pinoy restaurant serving authentic bulalo, otherwise known as the bone marrow soup.

Aranas opened the “Bulalo House” in the heart of Chinatown's Somerset where Chinese restaurants vie to get the title of the best soup in town.

“Sabi nga nila, Filipino restaurant they always make it turo-turo. There's nobody who became successful. Wala pang nagiging successful sa Ottawa na Pilipino restaurant,” she said.

Kababayans do not mind squeezing into the tiny restaurant. For them, it’s more than just tasting the most famous bulalo in town.

“It’s really good that it helps promote our culture and our Filipino cuisine,” said a customer.

Aranas added that they also try to make food good for one's health by removing the excess fat.

The guests at the “Bulalo House” are not just after the taste and health benefits of the food. Once inside the restaurant, the guests said that its just like being back home.
