LONDON - Even before he became a rap dancer, a comedian and regular television host of ABS-CBN's Umagang Kay Ganda, Jeffrey Tam is also acknowledged as a world-class magician.

A 3-time magic champion in the Philippines, Tam also won in the Asian Magic Championship in Hong Kong last December, the most prestigious qualifying tournament for the Blackpool World Championship held only last July.

Tam landed sixth in the parlor close-up magic category participated in by 57 countries.

Since 2008 performing his craft in Spain, France and London, Tam was dubbed as the first Filipino close-up magician to conquer Europe, and was even featured in UKs Five on One.

He has been in the United Kingdom for almost three months now, and would have wanted to go back to Manila.

“Nag-enjoy talaga ako dito kasi ang dami ko na din na-meet na Pilipino dito. Madami na rin akong mga kaibigang Briton, tapos yung experience ko sa pagma-magic lalong na-enhanced kasi ang dami kong na meet na magicians,” Tam said.

Tam performs at the Illusions Magic Bar in Bristol, UK's only magic bar.

The audience, especially the Brits, is captivated with his magic skills in complete harmony with his comedy antics that make his act very entertaining.

“Ang magic kasi hindi lang pabilibin mo yung tao kailangang may kasama din entertainment,” he said.

Tam wants to operate his own magic bar in the Philippines, which could be the first if ever.

He wants to fully harness this craft in preparation for the next World Magic Championship in Italy scheduled 2015.

“Magre-research ako ng bagong act kasi dito sa World Championship kailangan ang act mo is original,” he said.

For now, Tam wants to go home to Manila. The 35-year old bachelor misses his friends in the morning program.

“Actually sina kuya Alex Santos nagte-text sa akin sa phone, 'hoy, kailan ka babalik?' Malapit na! Ilang buwan na lang. Nami-miss ko na yung UKG family ko. Sana pag balik ko magsasama-sama kami ulit,” Tam said.

Whether in London or in Manila, Tam can have it either way with his extraordinary talent. With Patrick Ropeta, ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau
