MANILA, Philippines – A Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) official on Monday said the government has so far spent at least $3 million for the repatriation of OFWs from war-torn Syria.
DFA Undersecretary for Administration Rafael Seguis said 233 OFWs in the conflict-ridden country are expected to return to the Philippines soon.
"Mayroon pang 233 OFWs ayon po sa report ng ating embahada. Ang hinihintay na lang ay exit visa para makauwi na," Seguis told radio dzMM.
He said 26 of these OFWs are due to arrive this week.
Seguis said at least 2,400 more OFWs have expressed willingness to be repatriated. He said the Philippine Rapid Response Team continues to gather more OFWs.
At least 2,300 OFWs have been successfully repatriated so far, Seguis said.
