REDWOOD CITY, California – A twist in the trial of a Filipino accused of terrorism as the third week of Ralph DeLeon's jury trial continues.
Arifeen David Gojali, who was accused of aspiring to join a terror group with DeLeon but has since struck a plea agreement with federal prosecutors, has testified against the Filipino.
Gojali testified that he and DeLeon were planning to go to the Middle East to join the Taliban and carry out terrorist acts against American forces.
He said that he and DeLeon often exercised together in preparation for combat.
Prosecutors also played secretly videotaped conversations of the suspects planning their trips to the Middle East.
Gojali pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support to terrorists to have other charges dropped against co-defendant Miguel Santana, who had also struck a plea deal with prosecutors.
DeLeon had pleaded not guilty to a series of terrorism related charges.
