MANILA – Filipina Marlisa Punzalan is among the contestants who made it to the Top 10 of reality singing competition, X Factor Australia.
In last Sunday's live show, Punzalan sang her rendition of Olivia Newton John's classic "Hopelessly Devoted to You". The song choice was part of the week's Decade Challenge.
The performance earned the remaining Pinay on the show a standing ovation from all four judges: Redfoo, Ronan Keating,
Dannii Minogue, and Natalie Bassingthwaighte.
"She's back! I was lucky enough to perform the role of Sandy in Grease musical twice around the country and that is the hardest song ever! So low, so high... Your vocals are amazing. Outstanding!" said Bassingthwaighte.
The 14-year-old struggled during last week's show because she was sick. But the judges still gave her positive feedback for giving her all during her performance of Lady Gaga's song, 'Paparazzi'.
"Last week was like the hardest thing I've ever been through. I was sick. I had no voice at all. I don't know how I did it," she said.
She likewise gained good responses for her latest performance last Sunday.
Minogue said, "Brilliant job, great!"
Redfoo described her performance as "remarkable".
"14 years old, never saw the movie. Never heard the song and to sing it like that, that's really remarkable. Congratulations!" he said.
Punzalan belong to Keating's Under 25 Females.
"Marlisa, let's remember what we're trying to do on the show. We're trying to find a star. That's how we feel about that performance. We're trying to find a star that could sell records internationally. Some of the biggest stars in the world are younger. You have what it takes to be on that level. We're gonna get there," Keating said.
