REDWOOD CITY, California – The Filipino-American mother of the 6-year-old Washington girl who was raped and killed earlier this month is fighting to regain custody of her other children.

But that may not happen until October.

Denise Wright and her husband James hoped to get their 8, 12, and 16-year-old children back after a suspect was arrested for the rape and murder of their youngest daughter Jenise almost two weeks ago.

Local reports say the Wrights will head to court in October to fight for their kids. It is not clear why the future trial date was set.

Earlier this month, child protective services removed the Wright children from their home when police began searching for 6-year-old Jenise.

Jenise’ body was later found buried in mud near her home and 17-year-old Gabriel Gaeta was arrested for her rape and murder.

The other Wright children are currently staying with their maternal grandparents.
