HOLLYWOOD - OPM and Philippine folk songs recently took center stage at the Ford Theater in Hollywood.
"Serenata Pilipina" is a show headlined by veteran Filipino singer Mon David.
"This is special because for the first time at the Fod Theater, we are able to pay tribute to all the Filipino composers and highlight and showcase the beauty of OPM," David said.
Ford Theater is a world-class performing venue for diverse talents in Los Angeles.
David was the winner of the 2006 London International Jazz Vocal Competition. He frequently performs in mainstream jazz events.
"Ako, nasasabik na ako kumanta ng OPM dahil medyo nagka-break ako diyan," he said.
Asked what it is like being a Filipino artist in the US, David said, "I'm having a blast, exploring the scene and learning from fellow musicians."
He is also proud of his children, Nicole and Carlo David, who are following in his footsteps.
"I guess it's genetic, and also ang exposure nila since they were younger. They've been surrounded by music and live concerts," he said.
"Serenata Filipina" also featured other Filipino artists including Harana Men's Chorus, vocalist Annie Nepomuceno and musical theater actress Lara Avengoza.
