LONDON – Filipino Olympic athletes for archery and judo arrived in London, seven days before the formal opening of the 2012 London Olympics.

Like Olympic skeet shooter Brian Rosario, judoka Tomohiko Hoshina and archers Mark Javier and Rachel Anne Cabral did not join the pre-camp training offered by the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) here in the United Kingdom.

Judoka Tomohiko stayed in Japan where he works as a high school teacher to prepare for his Olympic stint with his coach Yashuhiro Sato.

Meanwhile, archers Cabral and Javier went to South Korea for their training with their Korean coach Chung Jae Yun.

In an Interview with ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau, Cabral admitted that she is looking forward to her first game.

“I am totally ready now. I’m also not nervous,” she said.

Like other Filipino Olympians, she is also hoping to bring home an Olympic medal.

“Yes, I am really hoping to win for the Philippines,” she said.

Javier, who already competed during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, sees no problem with the weather here in England.

“I think I will not have a problem with the weather here and the food,” he said.

“I’m actually excited now since this is my second time to compete for the Olympics,” he said.

Javier said they went to South Korea not just for the training but also to get equipment that they will use for the Olympics.

“We went to South Korea to pick up an equipment that we really need to bring here so we can use for our tournament,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tomohiko promised to do his best to win an Olympic medal.

“I will try my best to win in the Judo event,” he said.

Straight from the airport, the athletes went to the Olympic Village where they will stay for the duration of the Summer Games.

Other Filipino Olympians like Rosario, steeplechaser Rene Herrera and long jumper Marestella Torres, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, swimmers Jasmine Alkhaldi and Jessie Lacuna moved there this week.

They are accompanied by shooting coach Gay Mauricio-Corral, swimming coach Carlos Brosas, weightlifting coach Tony Agustin and track and field coach Joseph Sy.

The Olympic Village in Stratford, London borough of Newham, is located inside the Olympic Park and just a walking distance to some of the summer games venues.
