LONDON - Ten paintings for the professional category and six for the student category are showcased as finalists in the international painting competition depicting the life in Europe of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
"Ito po ay nililibot namin kung saan nanggaling si Rizal at yung final judging dito rin gagawin sa Europa at bawat bansang pupuntahan may isang juror," Kunst Gallery's Ver Quizon, competition organizer,
The paintings have been exhibited in Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Italy and United Kingdom.
"I'm very impressed with what I see. I think the whole concept of Filipinism, the expression of Filipino identity comes through in the works of art and very clearly a wide variety of styles," Oxford University lecturer Jasleen Kandhari, one of the jurors in the UK, said.
The artworks highlight Rizal's travels, exploits and misadventures in European countries like France, Germany and Spain. Some are metaphorical pieces on Rizal as a student and writer in Europe.
"I was amazed kasi these paintings were able to make it here in London and different parts of Europe. I'm very happy kasi bihira itong art exhibit about our national hero," Juanart Nieva, Knights of Rizal, said.
The "Life of Dr. Jose Rizal in Europe" international painting competition started last year in the Philippines with 36 original artworks.
The winner will be announced in Manila this week.
