MANILA - Two immigration consultancy staff were sentenced to life imprisonment for large scale illegal recruitment.

Rodolfo A. Domingo Jr., and Roliza S. Batag were employees of Global Consultancy Management Services located in Baguio City.

A decision by Judge Rose Mary Molina-Alim of the Regional Trial Court Branch 3 found the two guilty of engaging in recruitment of overseas Filipino workers without proper authorization from the Philippine Overseas Workers Administration (POEA).

A total of 41 complainants, most of them from Baguio City, alleged that the two collected from placement fees amounting P35,000 up to P170,000 in consideration of the promised employment as domestic helpers in Canada; butchers, factory workers and civil engineers for Australia; and electronic technicians for South Korea.

They claimed the overseas jobs would have salaries ranging from P60,000 to P130,000.

Under the law, offering overseas employment in the guise of visa assistance without the necessary license or authority from the POEA constitutes illegal recruitment.
