VIRGINIA BEACH – Fourth of July is all about fireworks and the commemoration of America’s declaration of independence from Great Britain.
For the Filipino community in Virginia Beach, it was also time to celebrate the ties that bind the Philippines and the United States.
More than 10,000 people attended the 43rd Annual Philippine-American Friendship Day at the Red Wing Park on Sunday.
Hollywood actor and Virginia Beach native Michael Copon was one of those who graced the event.
"The best thing that I take away from celebrating Filipino American Friendship Day is just real true love and friendship (among kababayans)," he said.
“(Virginia Beach) is home to a wonderful Filipino community, one of the largest in the nation and there’s so much that they contribute to our society. They are patriots,” U.S. Representative Scott Rigel, who also attended the event, said.
Kapamilya star Matteo Guidicelli headlined the event, which also featured (TFC) Barangay USA host, Gelo.
"I am so happy and thankful to be here. I hope to be back," Guidicelli said.
Organizers of the FilAm Friendship Day Committee said they are not only hoping to bring back Guidicelli next year, but also his girlfriend, singer/actress Sarah Geronimo.
