MANILA - Vice President Jejomar C. Binay called on the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh on Friday to investigate the death of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) killed in a car accident.

He also asked for the probe on the remains that was repatriated on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Albert Bautista, a mechanical engineer who worked under AL Rashid Trading & Contracting Co. in Riyadh.

According to the Philippine Consul General in Jeddah, the vehicular accident took place along Jizan highway on June 4.

However, a close relative and neighbor of the victim, Dexter Dominguez, said Bautista was still alive when he was brought to King Faizal Hospital in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

The added information spiked the probe to find the cause leading to Bautista's death.

Binay said he will immediately look into the case and inform the family of their findings.

He also said he will extend available resources to aid the investigation.

“If the victim was still alive when he was brought to the hospital, we must investigate what happened after,” Binay said.
