Pinoy sentenced in San Diego bribery case
REDWOOD CITY, California - A Filipino in San Diego, who was working as a government contractor, has been sentenced in the so-called "Godfather of Camp Pendleton" case.
Bayani Yabut Abueg Jr., president of MBR Associates Inc., has been sentenced by a federal court to six months in prison and some $366,000 in fines.
MBR was also sentenced to five years of probation.
Last January, Abueg along with another contractor, Hugo Alonso, pleaded guilty to a bribery case involving US Department of Defense Employee Natividad Cervantes.
Cervantes, known as the "Godfather of Camp Pendleton", is believed to have used his position to accept bribes in exchange for major contracts such as construction projects on the military base.
