MANILA, Philippines – Two Filipino seamen were hurt in a sea vessel explosion involving a gas tanker last June 18, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said on Thursday.

Marianito Aguilon, 41 years old, from Pallocan, Batangas, sustained burns to 44 percent of his body, while his 29-year old colleague, Guillermo Enriquez, Jr., of Mabini, also in Batangas province sustained about 38 percent burns.

“We will continue to monitor the progress of the two Filipino seafarers through our officials assigned in the Post and extend necessary assistance to them,” said OWWA Officer-in-Charge Josefino Torres.

The victims were immediately treated at the Fujairah Hospital.

“We will also ensure that proper assistance are provided to our unfortunate seafarers," added Torres.

The blast happened when the Pinoys’ sea vessel was sailing the waters off Fujairah in the United Arabs Emirates.

OWWA said the victims’ families have been notified of the accident and the condition of the seafarers. They will also be provided with psychosocial counseling under the "Kalinga sa Marino Project".
