Pinay rape victim falls from building in Kuwait
KUWAIT – Tragedy struck twice for an overseas Filipino household service worker who was raped, and then landed in the hospital a few days later after surviving a fall from a building.
Kyla, not her real name, is a 27-year-old single mom and native of Mangatarem, Pangasinan. She arrived in Kuwait last May 17 and worked for an Iranian employer.
She said she was raped by the brother of her female employer last June 9.
However, her female employer did not believe her when she told her about the rape incident.
On June 16, she decided to seek the help of her manpower agency. They filed a case with the police station.
However, her employer urged her not to pursue the case in exchange for her immediate repatriation. Her employer warned her the case would only drag on for years.
"Natatakot po sila na malaman na na-rape ako," she said of her agency.
Kyla said she wanted to go to the Philippine embassy to seek help but she was locked inside a room at her agency's building. So she tied up the bedsheets and tried to escape out the window.
But she fell from the second floor, sustaining broken jaw and left shoulder, and spraining her right hand.
"Tumatakas po ako kasi naka-lock po ang pintuan. Gusto ko po pumunta ng embassy para magsumbong po kasi ni rape po ako," Kyla said.
Kyla now is set to undergo maxillofacial surgery to repair her broken jaw.
"Gusto ko po sana makapunta ang mommy ko dito sa Kuwait para po may mag-alaga sa akin habang nag re-recover po ako," she said.
The Philippine Embassy already suspended the manpower agency and is bent to pursuing a case against the latter and the employer for what happened to the OFW.
