MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has issued a warning anew for overseas Filipino workers (OFW) not to go to Syria.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the ban on Filipino workers bound for Syria remains in effect, citing the ongoing clashes in the Middle Eastern country.
“There is an existing ban on OFWs bound for Syria. The POEA (Philippine Overseas Employment Administration) is not processing any worker document for Syria, and Syria is not a safe place for OFWs to work,” Baldoz said in a press statement.
Baldoz warns those who are seeking employment not to be enticed by illegal recruiters who are offering stable jobs in Syria.
Since the violence erupted in Syria, 1,531 Filipinos have been repatriated.
But officials said nearly 7,000 Filipinos are still in the strife-torn nation. -- Report from ANC
