MANILA – Filipinos in Iraq are urged to return to the Philippines as the security situation in that country continues to deteriorate, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday.
"Filipinos in Iraq are enjoined to volunteer to return to the Philippines at government expense," the DFA said in a statement.
On Saturday, the DFA raised Crisis Alert Level 3 (voluntary repatriation) for Iraq except for the Iraqi Kurdistan region which remains under Alert Level 1 (precautionary phase).
"Kurdistan remains relatively calm and stable," the DFA said.
The DFA is sending a rapid response team to Iraq to assist in the voluntary repatriation of Filipinos there.
"The DFA continues to closely monitor the political and security developments in Iraq," it added.
There are about 6,000 permanent, temporary and irregular Filipino workers in Iraq based on the 2012 Compendium of Statistics on International Migration of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas.
