Las Vegas shootout stuns Pinoy community
NEVADA – Filipinos, who live near where five people were killed in a shootout last Sunday morning in Las Vegas, are now worried about their safety.
Two Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officers were shot while eating lunch at a pizza place. One police officer died on the spot while the other police officer was transported and died at the university medical center.
The suspects proceeded across the street and shot a female bystander inside a Walmart store.
Police confirmed that the suspects are a man and a woman who killed themselves in an apparent suicide pact.
The identity and motive of the two suspects have not yet been released.
Malen Mateo, a single Pinay mother of three, lives in the area. She is also a patron of both the all-you-can-eat pizza place and Walmart store.
"Yung safety ng mga bata hindi lang sa mga adults. Almost every weekend that's the store we always go to. Very tragic lang kasi innocent people. It's not safe anymore. Nakakatakot siguro, anywhere, not only Walmart," Mateo said.
Mateo confirms that many Pinoy retirees work at the said Walmart branch.
"Lalo na yung mga bata ayaw ng pumunta at scary daw,” she said.
Business establishments at this strip mall, including a Pinoy-owned business and neighboring stores, temporary closed down for Sunday as authorities continue to investigate the tragic incident.
