MANILA - Several activities have been lined up for overseas Filipino workers and their families in celebration of the "Migrant Workers Day".
The event is the government's way of paying tribute to more than 9 million OFWs working in 200 countries worldwide.
This year's theme, "Magkasangga Para sa Kapakanan, Kabuhayan at Kalusugan Para sa OFW," will focus on the migrant workers' welfare and well-being.
The Migrant Workers Day festivities--which will offer medical mission with free check-up and free medicines, set up of information booths among others--will be held jointly by various government agencies on Friday, June 6, at the POEA grounds.
Also known as "Araw ng Pasasalamat", the event will be celebrated in OWWA's 17 Welfare Offices nationwide on June 6 and 7 and would feature activities such as tree planting, trade fair, and forum.
Likewise, OWWA's overseas Posts in Japan, Kaoshiung and Taichung in Taiwan, Macau, Rome, Milan, Greece, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Qatar and Libya will conduct activities such as sports tournament, medical/dental mission, beauty pageant and wellness programs for OFWs.
On June 9, OWWA will treat OFWs at the Central Office with ‘simple’ freebies such as biscuits and coffee, as well as accord them the usual prompt, swift action to pay tribute to the country’s ‘economic heroes’.
