Martin Nievera dreams of permanent Las Vegas gig
LAS VEGAS - Concert King Martin Nievera performed before a sold-out Memorial Day weekend concert at the M Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Hundreds of Filipinos from the neighboring states of California and Arizona flocked to see Nievera perform live.
"Sobrang sarap. I mean after 31 years in the business nandun pa rin yung mga kapwa ko Pinoy, mga Kapamilya. It feels great that they're still there. I'm just so proud and I'm still happy to perform here in Las Vegas," Nievera said.
Pinoys in the audience were not only ecstatic but thrilled when Nievera started singing the hit theme songs of ABS-CBN teleseryes.
"You know what really warms my heart is to see that Filipinos will come from all across the world to watch. I can only do an hour and a half. Usually, I can do three hours, and they will travel thousands of miles, a hundreds of miles. I wish I can give them more but just by there being here in every show I've done so far, I am blessed already," he said.
Nievera said that he missed performing in Las Vegas and is still not losing hope on having a regular gig on the Las Vegas strip.
"Las Vegas is a special place for me. This is like my second home and it's also a place I'd always wanted to make it. Like the big greats like the Rat Pack, Sinatra, Sammy Davis, I want to be the first Filipino to say that he is a fixture, a permanent fixture here in Las Vegas. So my dream still continues. The journey is quite long. Hit and miss. Today is a hit," he said.
