MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Friday afternoon that a Filipino has been sentenced to death by a Qatari court last April 30 for espionage and economic sabotage.

The DFA said 2 other Filipinos were sentenced to life imprisonment for the same offense.

The lower court verdict was appealed before the Qatari Court of Appeals last May 4.

The convicted Filipinos were represented by a lawyer, while the Philippine embassy continues to provide them with assistance, the DFA said.

The Filipino sentenced to death is an employee of a state-owned company while the 2 others are technicians of a military base.

They were accused of leaking and selling state secrets.

The DFA did not name the trio.
