Filipina singer Charice
LOS ANGELES - Openly gay American rock star Melissa Etheridge offered some advice for Filipina singer Charice.
Etheridge is known as an active advocate for gay and lesbian rights.
She is one of the founders of Uprising of Love, an organization that gives support for the international LGBT community.
Etheridge admitted she also went through a big adjustment when she came out as a lesbian.
She offered some advice for Charice, who also came out of the closet last year.
"Do what you love. Do not think that a reaction from this perceived public - it's not true. It doesn't exist. All that exists is what you feel inside so if she's singing and she loves it and she's doing what she loves then her life will be successful," Etheridge said.
Like Charice, Etheridge's mom didn't immediately embrace her change in lifestyle.
But this didn't stop her from working hard to achieve success in the music industry.
Etheridge's most popular song, "Come to My Window", brought her two Grammy Awards. She also won an Oscar for Best Song in 2007.
Charice is currently on tour in the US.
