MANILA – Fifteen Filipino seafarers stranded inside their vessel for eight months in Maltese waters were reunited with their families in the Philippines last week, the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

The Philippine Embassy in Rome said the 15 Filipino crew members of MV B Lady Bug arrived in the Philippines last April 19.

The company which owned the vessel went bankrupt and abandoned the crew.

The crew disembarked from the ship on April 17 only after a court in Malta decided to approve the sale of the vessel to new owners.

The embassy said the Filipino crew received favorable financial settlement which included the payment of their back wages/allowances (with interests) and repatriation costs.
The embassy added that the Pinoy seafarers were properly assisted from the time they were stranded up to their repatriation.
