MANILA - New tests by the Department of Health (DOH) on the Filipino nurse who returned from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus (MERS-CoV) yielded negative results.

In a press conference on Black Saturday, Health Secretary Enrique Ona said the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who returned last Tuesday (April 15) afternoon and had been deemed positive as a carrier of the MERS-CoV no longer has the virus.

He said the Filipino nurse will soon be discharged.

Ona said the OFW's family and well-wishers have also been tested and all results were negative for MERS-CoV.

Asked to explain the seemingly conflicting results, Ona said the test result was positive when it was done in the Middle East, so most likely, the OFW was able to overcome the virus.

The Filipino nurse did not exhibit any symptoms of MERS-CoV.
