MANILA – Malaya Watson, the lone contestant with Filipino roots, has been eliminated on American Idol Season 13.
The 16-year-old Watson ended up in the bottom 2 together with CJ Harris on Thursday night (Friday in Manila). However, it was Watson who bowed out of the show after getting the lowest votes.
The tuba player from Southfield High School in Michigan was emotional when she sang "I Am Changing" by Jennifer Hudson, her final performance on American Idol.
Last week, Watson found herself at the bottom three, although it was Sam Woolf who got the lowest votes but was eventually saved by the judges.
During Idol Top 8 performance night on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila), Watson performed a Chaka Khan's hit "Through the Fire" as the finalists sang songs from the 1980s.
However, judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr., thought Watson was a bit tense during her performance.
Safe and moving on to the next round on American Idol are CJ Harris, Sam Woolf, Jena Asciutto, Alex Preston, Dexter Roberts, Jessica Meuse, and Caleb Johnson.
