MANILA, Philippines – An alliance of Filipino migrant groups on Saturday urged the Philippine posts in the United Arab Emirates to verify unconfirmed information that 2 Filipinas were gang raped and died from deep cuts on their bodies.
John Leonard Monterona, Migrante-Middle East regional coordinator was referring to a video spreading on the internet and social networking site Facebook that showed a woman who had deep cuts on her face and body, and attended to by a
hospital’s medical staff.
The Facebook video titled “pls help spread the video pr makarating s kinauukulan” is going viral on the net.
It described the woman in the hospital as a Filipina working in Abu Dhabi. The caption also stated that the woman and another Filipina, were about to go home from a party when the crime happened.
The 2 allegedly hailed a taxi driven by a Pakistani and then fell asleep drunk on the cab. The driver then allegedly called up his friends and brought the victims somewhere and gang raped them there.
Afterwards, the suspects used a sharp object to slash the victims’ face and body. One of the victims died on the spot, it stated. The other victim allegedly escaped and ended up in the hospital and died 3 days later.
The one who posted the video explained that the information was from a reliable source.
“The information is quite alarming; if it’s true, then the Filipino community in the UAE and Filipino organizations must be worried about this case that slipped away from the watch of our RP posts officials in the Emirates,” Monterona added.
Monterona called on the RP posts in Dubai and in Abu Dhabi to look into the case.
“First things first: verification and conducting a thorough investigation by the RP posts officials. And from its findings, the RP post must act swiftly. If it’s true, then the alleged Pakistani suspects must be hunted down and file an appropriate criminal case against them,” Monterona said.
