Pinoy Muslims in Bahrain pin hopes on peace deal

MANAMA, Bahrain – A diverse group of Filipino Muslims in the Kingdom of Bahrain gathered recently at the Andalus Garden in Gudaibiya, to celebrate the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB).

"I am thankful, on behalf of all the Bangsamoro OFWs here in Bahrain, because the agreement was now signed by the government of the Philippines and the MILF Bangsamoro," said Samer Anok, adviser of the Bangsamoro Kadtatabanga OFWs.

He added, "We now plead with the Philippine government, please make this a continuous peace in Mindanao".

Aside from Anok's group, the others groups who participated in the gathering were the Maranao Group, Tausug Group and those who are returning to the Islam faith.

Lucman Cabili, president of Maranao Group in Bahrain, said, "We longed for this opportunity to come. We should value this opportunity that was provided to us by our beloved President".

The groups expressed their support to the CAB and hope that the peace deal will not be a repeat of the previous agreements that were not effective.

"All of us here Bahrain, we will continuously supporting the Bangsamoro Agreement. We hope that this will not resemble the former Tripoli Agreement ," said Alex Abdullah, secretary of the Bangsamoro Kadtatabanga OFWs in Bahrain.

To Fairyjan Jahuran, a member of the Tausug Group in Bahrain, hopes that the peace and order in Mindanao will continue.

For Amina Ebrahim Ulama, president of Bangsamoro Kadtatabanga OFWs in Bahrain, majority of those affected by the conflicts in Mindanao are the youth and women.

"In the implementation of the agreement that was signed by our President and the Bangsamoro, we Muslim women should not be forgotten," she said.
