Idol judges use 'save' on Sam Woolf
MANILA – Filipino-American Malaya Watson ended up in the Bottom 3 during American Idol Season 13's reveal night on Thursday (Friday in Manila).
Aside from Watson, the two other contestants on the same boat with her were CJ Harris and Sam Woolf. However, it was Woolf who was left to sing for the Judges' "save".
Idol judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick jr., unanimously decided to use their one save for this season to prevent Woolf from being eliminated from the show.
The three contestants will be joining the rest of the group on the next round of reality show. They are Alex Preston, Jessica Meuse, Caleb Johnson, Jena Asciutto, and Dexter Roberts.
During the performance night on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila), Watson once again earned the praises of judges after her soulful rendition of Aretha Franklin's "Ain't No Way", her audition piece for American Idol.
"I think tonight was good. Like something came over me and I was like, Oh, my God, I sounded good!" said Watson in an interview with ABS-CBN North America News Bureau
The bespectacled teen is popular among young fans of American Idol.
"I'm feeling really confident in general because I have to hone myself because I don't want to sound like a slug or some unconfident piece of crap on television, like 'Oh, I'm just gonna sing this song.' No, you have to be confident so I'm always true to myself and true to everybody," she said.
Likewise, Watson is excited that people appreciate her bubbly personality.
"I think it's pretty awesome because people used to think, 'Oh, she's just different.' Now everyone's like 'Oh, my God, she's different!' So it's like two different aspects," she said. With a report from Yong Chavez, ABS-CBN North America News Bureau
