ATHENS, Greece – Churchgoers in Athens were happy to start the Holy Week season with a meaningful mass said in Filipino.
This, after Rome approved the request of the Cooperation of Religious Elders (CORE) to send a priest to say mass in Filipino.
“We really feel grateful sapagkat naramdaman namin na ang aming mga kababayan ay mas lalong nakaka-relate sa misang Tagalog at lalong nagbubuklod sa aming mga kasamahan mula sa iba’t-ibang catholic communities," said Bonn Tipontipon.
Fr. Noel Llaga flew in from Rome to lead the mass held at the St. Dennis Cathedral.
Pinoy faithful filled the cathedral, considered as the biggest Catholic Church in Athens, to hear mass in Filipino.
Even the choir was composed of Pinoy members singing Filipino church songs.
“Ito po ay isang napakagandang biyaya sa amin na bigay ng Panginoon dahil sa pamamagitan nito nadadagdagan po ang aming spiritual nourishment para sa kapwa Pilipino dito sa Greece," said CORE Pastoral Group Representative Tessie Doe. Elmina Mendoza-Buado, ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau correspondent
