BACOLOD - Sixty-five-year-old Lorna Sun died due to heart attack in a nursing home in New York last March 20.
Sun, who came from Bacolod City, worked in the United States as a caregiver for almost 20 years.
Based on the record of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Sun worked in the US for 19 years without legal documents.
According to Camille Lencioco of the DFA's Office of the Assistance to National Fund, they are having difficulties giving Sun's family assistance because her stay in the US was illegal.
Last week, the OFW's son signed an agreement to allow the cremation of his mother's remains.
After her cremation, her ashes will be brought by a fellow OFW to Bacolod City. They were the ones who spent for her wake in New York.
Sun's family refused to grant media interviews.
But they said they were dismayed over the lack of help from the Philippine government.
