LONDON – A 15-year old Filipino-Australian will be representing the Philippines in the sought-after international modeling competition "Top Model Worldwide".
Madison Vulic's mother is Filipina and her father is of European descent. She grew up in Australia but she chose to wave the flag of the Philippines in the competition.
"I wanted to represent the Philippines because they're more supportive and like, my mum's Filipino, and so I just chose to represent the Philippines," she said.
Early on, young Vulic already outclassed many girls her age. She excelled in the performing arts.
This is Vulic's first venture into the modeling world and she is determined to make her dream a reality.
"The way I think about it, I don't like to compare myself to others. This is a competition for me. I always concentrate on myself so it's much more easier for me to stay focused. I flew over here for this competition, just to get the exposure and also the experience and to meet new people. It would be great to just to feel like I've done something, achieved something if I just win an award," said Vulic.
She is proud of her Pinoy roots and she looks up to her mother as a good role model.
"She has so much strength and is always telling me to keep pushing myself. She's not a mum that would hold me back. She'd be like, 'whatever you want to do, you can do. Just go on that path'," she said.
More than 40 finalists from various parts of the world will appear in a fully choreographed, high-profile runway show.
Prizes for winners include professional runway training and career guidance, photo shoot opportunities, and media exposure.
Apart from the coveted title, the Pinay-Aussie also wants to win the Public Vote Awards where members of the public get to vote online for their favorite model.
"First off, you can go to the competition's website, which is www.topmodelworld.com. You go on the tab, 2014 Finalists, and they have a whole list of all the contestant, and I'm contestant number 6 - Madison V. There will be a picture of me so people won't get mixed up. You just click on my name and there's a whole list of instructions. Just follow that, it's simple," she said.
Vulic will be strutting the runways for the grand final show on April 5 at London Hilton Metropole.
