KUWAIT CITY – Have you been offered a job in Kuwait via social networking sites?

Don't just take it. Otherwise, you might end up in prostitution dens.

"Filipinas, especially those working as Household Service Workers (HSWs), are hereby advised not to believe in Facebook posts, chats or messages posted on any social networking site promising jobs in coffee shops but are actually prostitution dens," Philippine Consul General to Kuwait Atty. Raul H. Dado said.

The raided suspected sex den in Salmiya, Kuwait

The embassy was prompted to issue a statement following the recent rescue of eight Filipinas from a suspected sex den in Salmiya.

Dado said the raid carried out by the Kuwaiti authorities has also led to the arrest of an Egyptian national who allegedly ran the sex den. He cited that the victims were lured by a certain Filipina with initials RG, who worked for the Egyptian suspect in recruiting victims.

"She will convince the prospective victim to escape from her employer with the promise of a good pay at a coffee shop which turns out to be a sex den," he pointed out.

Dado stressed that the embassy is bent on helping the victims, but admitted that it is a tough legal battle because the victims escaped voluntarily from their employers. Under Kuwaiti law, absconding is considered a criminal offense and those caught could face imprisonment.

On the embassy's Facebook page, Dado posted an advisory to provide Filipino nationals on what to do and where to seek help when in a dire situation.

12. Wag tayo papatalo as technicality. Sayang.

Likewise, Dado thanked Kuwaiti authorities for raiding the suspected sex den and arresting the suspect. He called on all Filipinos in Kuwait to be vigilant, look after one another, and immediately report to them distressed Filipinos needing help.
